Last Friday Mr L had taken a day off to join me on my last day as a "Lady of Leisure", I've had a few weeks off between jobs and will be starting a new job this Monday.
Since Friday was a great day where you could feel spring coming to Melbourne we decided to go for a long walk along the beach which ended at Republica for pizza and wine.
We scored a table in the sun and started with some crisp Sauvignon Blanc while we waited for our pizzas.
Mr L had decided on the chilli prawn, zucchini and roasted garlic with sumac pizza and I ordered the free range ham and roasted mushrooms with caramelised onion pizza. We ended up sharing both of them and frankly, I couldn't tell you which one I preferred, they were both awesome!
The mushrooms were fresh and super tasty, the chilli prawns on Mr L's pizza weren't too spicy and cooked to perfection.
We had also ordered some mixed Australian olives, the serve was actually really big and we didn't end up finishing them, but they were really good! It would have been nice if the olives had come out before our pizzas instead of together with them but maybe we didn't make that clear when ordering.
The lunch really was absolutely perfect, the first lunch in the sun, the food and wine were great and the company even better.
I think the only problem with Republica is that it will be packed during summer and it will be hard to get a table, but the pizza is exactly what I wanted, thin crust and good flavour, not too many crazy toppings, but great quality basics.
